Me
What I do
One of my earlier memories as a “photojournalist” is from the mid 90’s. I was in the backyard with my mom’s film camera, shooting scenes with a Quasimodo action figure, Darth Vader, some 1:18 scale sports cars and a scale barn that I had made for a school project. I spent a good hour or two positioning cars, posing characters and snapping shots, creating this story that would all come together once the film was developed. While the story of a conflicted, farmer Jedi Knight chasing a hunchback with a killer collection of 90’s super cars sounds ridiculous, it’s one of those memories that explains a lot about me and my photojournalistic approach to photography.
Today, I’m still at it, capturing small moments in time that all come together to form an interesting and emotional story. This is what I truly love to do and the primary reason I’ve stepped foot into wedding photography.
Other interests
A lot of my other interests go well with photography. I enjoy the outdoors and wildlife, especially bird watching. Texas offers some of the best birding in the world. I’ve always been a car guy and into motorsports. I have a ’93 Civic Si road course car. I’m also interested in history, technology and pretty much anything web related.
Gear
My favorite combo, by far, is the Canon 5D Mark II with the 50 f/1.2L. This is an all around useful combo that takes fantastic photos. 50mm is a great focal length for portraits, especially when you want to really include the environment in the photo. I like to pack light when I’m out shooting and this combo is often all I’ll have on me.
Other lenses include the great Canon 24 f/1.4L II on the wide end and the Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS, a real workhorse. I also have a Canon 50D, my first DSLR camera, that gets a lot of wildlife and action use. The 50D + 70-200 + 1.4x extender isn’t a bad birding combo. The 50D also serves as a backup body on paid shoots.
